BORONGAN CITY (PIA) — The City Government of Borongan through the leadership of Mayor Jose Ivan “Dayan” C. Agda distributed students allowance amounting to P1,500 per semester on January 16-20 in different school campuses in this city.
The move was based on City Ordinance No. 241 series of 2022, an Ordinance granting allowance to Boronganons who are college and Senior High School students, in which it was stated that qualified students get P1,500 every semester or P 250 per month for every student.
The purpose of the Ordinance is to boost and uplift the morale of college and senior high school students, so that they will work hard to finish their studies, and teach students about finances, responsibilities, and the value of money.
City Mayor Agda and Sangguniang Panlunsod members attended the distribution of the student allowance at the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) – Main Campus, Borongan.
In his short message, Mayor Agda encouraged the students to study hard so that they can reach their goals. He added that the city government is exerting efforts to increase the revenue so that their allowance will be increased.
The payout was led by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).
According to City Social Welfare Assistant Ariane Fe T. Cabiatao, a total of 5,888 students received their allowance and the total money disbursed was P8,832,000.
The students who received their direct allowance are domiciled residence in Borongan City and re enrolled in the first semester of the School Year 2022-2023.
Students who are enrolled in the different schools in other places namely: Tacloban, Cebu, or Manila, may it be college or senior high school are qualified as long as they are Domicile residents.
Domicile as used in the Ordinance refer to a fixed permanent resident to which when a person is absent for business, pleasure, or other compelling reasons, he or she intends to return to.
One of the requirements of the Ordinance to the beneficiaries was that he or she must have also passed all of the enrolled subjects. (MMP/SDC/PIA E. Samar)
