LGU distributes cash assistance to victims of oil spill in Gloria

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — At least 585 oil spill-affected families received cash assistance and relief goods from Congressman Alfonso V. Umali, Jr. and from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), respectively during the recent distribution conducted by the municipal government of Gloria.

Affected families from the barangays of Bulaklakan, Balete, Guimbonan, Lucio Laurel, Narra, Sta. Theresa, and Tambong received P2,000 cash assistance from Congressman Umali as well as relief goods from the DSWD.

The distribution process went smoothly and was successfully led by Mayor German D. Rodegerio, together with Vice Mayor Romeo Edward Alvarez, Congressman Umali, DSWD, members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), and other officials of the local government.

Rodegerio expressed heartfelt thanks to the national government for the assistance given to his constituents, especially those who are affected by oil spills and those in dire need of aid to meet families’ basic necessities in times of crisis.

Rodegerio said government offers a wide range of assistance programs for individuals and families and he claimed that life had been extremely difficult for his constituents whose livelihoods rely on fishing since fishing is temporarily banned in the areas devastated by the oil spills.
