LGU Naujan commemorates Cooperative Month this October

CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – To show support in the celebration of Cooperative Month this October, the Municipal Government of Naujan through the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) spearheaded the Municipal Cooperative Congress 2023 held at Bahay Tuklasan Plenary Hall, Naujan on October 5.

With the theme “Cooperatives: Pioneering the Path to Recovery Amid Modern Challenges of Climate Change and Food Security,” the congress aims to promote awareness and drive home significant information regarding the role that cooperatives play in society, especially when tackling aforementioned issues.

The activity was graced by Naujan Mayor Henry Joel C. Teves together with the Municipal Administrator Stephanie Teves-Wong, and Councilor Allan Balbacal. Also present is Christian De Ade of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and the leaders of the 12 registered cooperatives in the municipality.

To give inspiration, Alicia L. Atienza of Batangas Provincial Cooperative and Livelihood Enterprise Development Office shared the best practices that the cooperative from the province has implemented in order to ensure their success.

Participants from the congress also garnered valuable information from the experiences of the members of the Sta. Maria Agrarian Reform Community Cooperative (SMARCC). Meanwhile, Naujan Municipal Cooperative Development Coordinator Raquelita M. Umali urged the leaders of the 12 cooperatives to pave the way in transforming their cooperatives to be resilient to the adversities of recent times.

The activity ended with the celebration of Koop-Saya, wherein members and leaders of the participating cooperatives played games that were related to the cooperative month celebration. (JJGS/PIA Oriental Mindoro)
