LGU provides support for abandoned baby found in eco bag

MANILA, (PIA) — In a heartwarming response to a distressing incident, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval visited San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital on Tuesday to check on the condition of a baby boy rescued after being found abandoned in a red eco bag along Santos Road, McArthur Highway in Barangay Potrero on December 23.

(As the Mother of Malabon City, we deeply regret this incident. We believe that every child has the right to live and receive proper care and guidance.)

The baby, diagnosed as a moderate preterm with low birth weight, has since been transferred to the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) in Quezon City, following treatment at the hospital.

The center will provide the infant with comprehensive support, including medical care, nutrition, psychology, and social services.

The City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) coordinated with various agencies, including the Malabon City Police, San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital, and the Local Civil Registry, to ensure the child’s safety and welfare.

The CSWDD also reported that staff at San Lorenzo Ruiz provided necessary medical care to stabilize the infant’s condition.

Additionally, barangay health workers were assigned as patient watchers, and nursing aides from local government-operated shelters were sent to monitor the baby’s care.

In a show of community spirit, parents of other infants in the hospital donated clothes, milk, and other essentials for the baby.

The CSWDD and Local Civil Registry processed the necessary documents for the baby’s transfer to the RSCC to ensure his immediate needs are met and to facilitate his eventual placement in a loving family.

Authorities reported that the baby was discovered by a concerned citizen around 6:40 a.m. on December 23, wrapped in a black shirt inside the eco bag.

Local police and Barangay Potrero personnel responded swiftly and transported the infant to the hospital. An investigation is underway to identify the individual responsible for abandoning the child.

Patuloy po nating tutukan ang insidenteng ito upang masiguro ang maayos na paglaki ng bata,” said City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete. (We will continue to monitor this incident to ensure the child’s proper growth.)

Rosete emphasized that the city government prioritizes the well-being of all residents, regardless of age. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
