LGUs affected by Kanlaon’s unrest get P1.2M worth of rice

BACOLOD CITY (PIA) — The Regional Task Force Kanlaon (RTFK) recently distributed over P1.2 million worth of rice to local government units (LGUs) at the forefront of Kanlaon Volcano’s eruption.

Responding to the request of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to provide support to families affected by Kanlaon’s continuing restiveness, the National Food Authority (NFA) Regional Office 6 released to the RTFK 659 sacks of rice at 50-kilograms each.

Priced at P38 per kilogram or P1,900 per bag, the newly milled rice were given to the local governments of La Castellana town, La Carlota City, Bago City, and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.

Closest and often most affected, La Castellana and Canlaon City received 310 and 254 sacks, respectively, while La Carlota had a share of 70 sacks, San Carlos City with 15, and Bago City with 10.

Meanwhile, the 303rd Brigade of the Philippine Army (PA) stationed at Camp Nelson L. Gerona in Murcia town provided military vehicles in delivering the sacks of rice to their intended recipients.

In a Facebook post, LGU La Castellana through its Incident Management Team (IMT) has expressed gratitude to the OCD and the RTFK for the more than 300 sacks of rice intended for their internally displaced residents. (AGP/BPS/PIA Negros Occidental)
