BACOLOD CITY (PIA) — The La Carlota City Government is receiving support from other local government units (LGUs) in delivering potable water to communities with low to no water supply after Kanlaon Volcano’s latest activity.
Following the moderately explosive eruption on April 8, two barangays – Ara-al and San Miguel – and their surrounding areas have been experiencing low water pressure, according to the La Carlota City Water District.
The La Carlota City Government quickly deployed its Mobile Water Treatment System to these villages to provide much-needed water for its affected residents.
To augment water rationing activities in the City hit by thick ashfall, the Provincial Government and local governments of Sagay City and Cadiz City sent their water filtration systems, exhibiting the spirit of Bayanihan.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) also mobilized water tankers to deliver clean and safe drinking water.
Residents used 5,000 water containers distributed by the city government to get and store water as the local water district continues clearing operations on its facilities troubled by ashfall.
Apart from water, affected individuals also need more personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks for protection against volcanic ash.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Western Visayas continues to provide humanitarian assistance through cash aid, family food packs (FFPs), and non-food items, which have now surpassed P86 million as of April 10.
Although the April 8 eruption did not cause more evacuations in Negros Occidental, authorities remind communities to remain vigilant while they continue preparations in the event of a worst-case scenario.
In an advisory issued at midnight, April 11, Phivolcs monitored 1,959 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux and 11 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours.
