DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The local government units of Davao Region are reminded to positively respond in implementing programs, activities and projects under the Davao Regional Development Plan 2023-2028 to achieve the medium and long term development goals of the country, particularly in poverty reduction and eradication.
Maria Lourdes D. Lim, regional director of the National Economic Development Authority Region XI (NEDA-XI), has conveyed this mandated role of the LGUs in support of national and regional development plan implementation during the 1st Roadshow for the Davao Regional Development Plan 2023-2028.
“LGUs have a crucial role in cascading the regional priorities in the DRDP to Provincial, Municipal and Barangay Development and Physical Framework Plans,” Lim said, as she presented the salient features of the DRDP 2023-2028 during the roadshow held on December 1, 2023 in Davao City.
Lim, who is also vice-chair of the Regional Development Council Region (RDC) -XI, emphasized the need for LGUs to steer public-private investments on the Davao growth drivers, such as physical and digital connectivity, water and energy, agriculture, health, tourism, and among others.
She explained that the DRDP aims to “reinvigorate job creation and hasten poverty reduction by steering the region’s economy back to its high-growth trajectory.”

The region also has to maintain the national position as among the five fastest growing regional economies in the country, to achieve boosting employment generation and poverty reduction, she said.
The RDC-XI, in collaboration with the Provincial LGU of Davao Occidental, organized the 1st DRDP 2023-2028 Roadshow, which was meant for development partners under the South Cluster of Davao Region, consisting of the provinces of Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and the City of Davao.
Lim said that the roadshow is among the DRDP communication and advocacy activities aimed at promoting a sense of ownership and understanding of the Plan.
Several development partners from the government and basic sectors were also invited to present their respective priority policies and programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) in support of the DRDP implementation.
Present as discussants were representatives from the Southern Davao Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Rural Workers of Malita Cooperative, Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology, Davao del Sur State College, and the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
