LINGAYEN, Pangasinan (PIA) — The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lingayen commemorated Rizal Day by honoring the youth as catalysts for nation-building, echoing the legacy of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s patriotism and vision for the Filipino people on Dec. 30, at the Rizal Monument in Plaza de Lingayen.
Marking the 128th death anniversary of the national hero, the event went beyond traditional ceremonies, emphasizing the crucial role of young Filipinos in shaping a progressive and united nation.
The celebration highlighted that youth empowerment is key to nation-building, as their creativity, energy, and commitment can address societal challenges and drive sustainable development.
Embracing the legacy of Rizal
In his message, Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil highlighted the importance of instilling a deep sense of national pride and service among the youth, reflecting on Rizal’s contributions at a young age.
“I watched the life story of Rizal and I was inspired upon learning that he was only 26 years old when he wrote Noli Me Tangere,” Bataoil shared.
Bataoil also urged the youth to carry forward Rizal’s spirit of service and dedication to the country.
Youth as nation builders
Lingayen Vice Mayor Dexter Malicdem meanwhile stressed the significance of public service in building a progressive society.
He called on the youth to follow Rizal’s example in dedicating their talents and efforts toward serving both God and country.
“It is an honor for the youth to be entrusted, like Rizal, to continue his noble ideals and aspirations to serve both God and the nation. Together, we can further improve and elevate our community,” he said.
By serving with integrity and commitment, youth can be inspired to take part in nation-building and create a better future for all Filipinos.
Traditional rites and national dedication
The event featured traditional rites, including flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies, symbolizing respect and gratitude for Rizal’s ultimate sacrifice.
Aligned with the Bagong Pilipinas advocacy, the Rizal Day celebration emphasized the responsibility of Filipinos to contribute to a united and progressive country.
