Livelihood skills training meant to give Pagadian women economic independence

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga Del Sur (PIA)—The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) recently concluded its livelihood program that was meant to empower women in barangays with essential skills for economic independence.

Jenny B. Nango from Sta. Maria Women’s Association, a recipient of dried fruit and vegetable processing training, is grateful for the program.

“The training was life-changing, I now have the skills and confidence to start my own business that will enable me to build a better future for me and my family,” she said.

Women from various agencies celebrated the program’s completion.

As part of the celebration of Women’s Month, graduates from the livelihood program were recognized for acquiring TESDA-certified skills in kimchi making, soap making, bread and pastry making, and dried fruit and vegetable processing. They are now ready to launch their businesses and contribute to the city’s economic development.

To empower the barangay women of Pagadian City, customized starter kits—including ovens, mixers, dehydrators, and processing materials—plus startup funds were provided to support various business ventures, fostering economic growth and well-being.

Through these initiatives, the City of Pagadian continues to uplift women economically while promoting gender equality, highlighting the significant role the women play in all aspects of its development. (EDT/CCP/PKG/PIA9)
