Local drivers in Isabela, Basilan undergo road safety, responsible driving seminar

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) – To promote road safety and responsible driving practices, the local government unit of Isabela City de Basilan through the City Tourism Office and City General Services Office, in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a Drivers’ Orientation and Road and Safety seminar to drivers in the city recently.

Over 300 habal-habal, tricycle, and 4-wheeled vehicle drivers from Malamawi Island, Isabela City de Basilan attended the Drivers’ Orientation on Road and Safety seminar dubbed “Ako Bahala Sayo”, which aims to educate drivers on the importance of responsible driving, tourism promotion and road safety.

More than 300 drivers from various sectors, including habal-habal, tricycle, and four-wheeled vehicle drivers, attended the seminar dubbed “Ako Bahala Sa’yo”,  which aimed to educate them on the importance of responsible driving, tourism promotion, and road safety.

Claudio M. Ramos II, city tourism officer, highlighted in his message the critical role that drivers play as ambassadors of the city in the tourism industry and as the first point of contact for visitors. He underscored the significance of tourism and the Filipino Brand of Service and Excellence (FBSE), emphasizing how responsible driving and knowledge of local attractions can greatly enhance the tourist experience.

Chief Husni Jalaluddin of LTO Basilan stressed the importance of possessing a driver’s license not only as a legal requirement but also as a responsibility ensuring the safety of all road users.

Speakers Alvarez J. Wadja and Robert J. Haakan from LTO, discussed drivers’ duties and responsibilities, outlining essential regulations and best practices to ensure that drivers are well-versed in traffic laws, road safety, and customer service. The session included interactive discussions and Q&A segments, allowing drivers to voice their concerns and gain clarity on various issues.

Meanwhile, Charmaine Barredo from the City General Services Office emphasized to the drivers the importance of proper waste disposal and its critical impact on the environment and tourism. She encouraged drivers to adopt eco-friendly practices to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable tourism experience.
