This initiative, which aims to help farmers reduce post-harvest losses and enhance irrigation capacity, is part of a larger effort to empower local agricultural communities.

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO)-10 and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 collaborated to make the project possible.

DOST Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Engr. Roy Sagrado emphasized the importance of the newly distributed equipment, particularly the solar dryers, in providing sustainable solutions for farmers.

(This solar dryer that we will give you is not just a Christmas gift but also an opportunity that you can use for your livelihoods, especially in preparing for disasters. This is a great opportunity for farmers and entrepreneurs like you, as you can improve the quality and price of your products.)

He also emphasized the importance of preparedness in disaster risk reduction and said that the DOST is ready to assist with food preservation technologies. He reminded everyone that preparation is key to protecting against hunger and disasters.

The portable solar dryers are expected to help reduce spoilage of harvested crops such as rice, corn, and vegetables by using renewable solar energy to dry produce more efficiently and eco-friendly.

Meanwhile, the water pump engines provided to farmers’ associations will improve irrigation, ensuring a more reliable water supply for their crops, especially during the dry season. (PIO Lanao del Norte/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
