QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The University of Caloocan City (UCC) received 60 recycled armchairs from the city government’s Environmental Management Department (CEMD) on Wednesday, July 31.
The project aims to strengthen Caloocan’s waste management and recycling programs, according to the city government.
Each armchair was made of 25 kilograms of plastic wrappers and 5 kilograms of plastic bottles, using a plastic melting machine.

“I commend the CEMD for not only maintaining cleanliness in our city and reducing plastic waste materials but also for creating useful tools for the youth of Caloocan, especially the new students at UCC-College of Engineering,” said Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan.
Malapitan urged residents to conduct waste sorting projects in their homes to reduce plastic use and support the CEMD’s recycling efforts.
“The CEMD can produce more recycled materials more quickly if we start organizing our wastes at home. Of course, our ultimate goal is to significantly reduce plastic use in the city, thereby eliminating its negative impacts on our environment,” Malapitan added.
The mayor said the recycling program aligns with his administration’s advocacy for sustainable, holistic, and long-term solutions in the city.
