Loren: 2024 National Arts and Crafts Fair celebrates Filipino ingenuity, cultural heritage

MANILA, (PIA) — Senator Loren Legarda highlighted the importance of the much-anticipated 2024 National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF) event in preserving cultural traditions.

The NACF, which officially opened on October 23, 2024, at the Megatrade Halls 1-3, Mega B, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, serves as a premier platform for promoting the Filipino creative industry, showcasing traditional arts, crafts, fashion, and cultural heritage from across the nation.

Legarda, a key supporter since the fair’s inception in 2016 said, “the NACF has served as a powerful platform to mainstream our indigenous arts, crafts, fashion, and cultural heritage into broader markets.”

The lady senator emphasized that the fair allows local artisans, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and Indigenous communities to gain visibility and access new markets.

In her speech, Legarda noted the significance of handmade crafts in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Nothing can match the beauty of crafts made by hand, with heart and soul poured into every product,” she said.

She also underscored that artisans do not just create for livelihood; they also work to keep traditions alive and safeguard the richness of Filipino heritage for future generations.

The 2024 NACF features exhibits from various regions, showcasing handmade crafts, woven fabrics, and traditional products. Visitors are encouraged to explore and purchase authentic local goods while engaging directly with Indigenous communities and artisans to learn about the stories and traditions behind their creations.

Legarda also conveyed a heartfelt message to the artisans, MSMEs, and Indigenous communities she has long championed.

Your work is our heritage. It is who we are as Filipinos. As a steadfast advocate of culture and the arts, I commit that I will continue to honor and preserve the excellence of the Filipino people,” she concluded.

The fair will run for five days, from October 23 to 27, 2024, providing ample opportunity for attendees to experience the richness of Filipino culture and craftsmanship.

The NACF is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in collaboration with the department’s regional and provincial offices, the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP), and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), with support from Senator Loren Legarda’s office.

This annual celebration not only highlights Filipino ingenuity but also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable livelihoods for local artisans and preserving cultural heritage. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
