Low-income PWDs receive aid through Cash-for-Work program

MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA) — Some 185 low-income Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in San Fernando, Bukidnon received financial aid through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Cash-for-Work Program (CFWP) on April 3.

Each beneficiary earned P461 per day for ten days, amounting to P4,610, which helped cover food, medicine, and other daily needs.

PWDs or their family representatives took part in community work appropriate to their capacity, including gardening, barangay clean-ups, and eco-waste management. The program targets low-income PWDs certified by local social welfare offices and those endorsed by barangay councils and disability affairs offices.

Implemented through DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) under the Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) modality, the program involves communities in planning and carrying out development projects.

Henobibo Bacus, a PWD from Barangay Tugop with polio, worked in a communal garden. He usually works as a farmhand.

Usahay kung naay magpa-harvest og mais, mo trabaho ko hinay-hinay, dili gyud tantong bug-at kay naa man koy kabilinggan,” he said.

(Sometimes, when someone asks for help harvesting corn, I work slowly—not too hard, because of my condition.)

He said he was thankful for the opportunity to earn and plans to use the money for daily essentials.

The CFWP offers short-term employment to vulnerable groups, including PWDs and their families, to help meet immediate needs while supporting local development efforts.

In Northern Mindanao, around 1,000 beneficiaries were identified across Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Lanao del Norte. In Bukidnon, the program covered San Fernando, Kitaotao, and Kadingilan; in Misamis Oriental, Kinoguitan and Binuangan; and in Lanao del Norte, Munai (DSWD-10/PIA 10-Bukidnon)
