LTFRB-10 urges public to report fare overcharging incidents

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-10 is calling on the public to help curb fare overcharging by reporting erring public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

In a press conference on Northern Mindanao’s December 2024 Inflation, Maulana Ahmad III, Records Officer of LTFRB-10, emphasized that the agency relies on public cooperation to ensure fair fare practices across the region.

“If there are instances of overcharging, we really need the public’s help to apprehend these violators. We encourage them to report these erring drivers to our office or through our Facebook page,” he said.

Ahmad reiterated that no fare increase is currently in effect for PUVs in Northern Mindanao. The fare for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) remains at P13.00 for traditional units and P15.00 for modern units for the first four kilometers. For every succeeding kilometer, the fare is P1.50 for traditional units and P1.80 for modern units.

He emphasized the need for public reports to address overcharging, as LTFRB-10 can summon erring drivers and impose fines of P5,000 to P7,000 for violations.

While the agency conducts daily roadside monitoring, Ahmad acknowledged that inspections are rotated across various areas of the region due to limited personnel.

“For example, today we are in Cagayan de Oro, the other day we were in Bukidnon, and previously, we were in Misamis Occidental. We rotate our weekly monitoring schedule, but the inspection is certainly done every day,” he added.

Ahmad assured that they are committed to maintaining fair transportation services and ensuring that PUVs operate within the approved fare structures. (APB/PIA-10)
