LTFRB: 91% of transport units in CV already consolidated

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory (LTFRB) in Region 7 disclosed that Central Visayas has reached 91 percent in the consolidation of transport units under the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

These units include public utility vehicles, buses, mini buses, taxis, and tourist transport.

“For public utility jeeps and the UV Express, we have already reached 94 percent,” said LTFRB-7 Regional Director Eduardo Montealto during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas held June 5 at the LTFRB office in Cebu City.

Montealto attributes the high consolidation rate in the region to the cooperation of the transport cooperatives and the commuting public.

“Ang atong mga stakeholders, labi na ang mga primary stakeholders nato which are the transport service entities and commuting public, dako kaayo ang pasalamat namo niiining consolidation because they are all after the safety and comfort of our commuting public,” he said.

(We would like to thank our stakeholders, especially the transport service entities and the commuting public, for their cooperation to the consolidation program because they are all after the safety and comfort of the commuting public.)

He said that the region already has 1,400 modernized jeepneys, 800 traditional jeepneys, and 784 UV Express that were consolidated.

Starting May 16, PUJs whose franchises remain unconsolidated would be considered as “colorum” and would be apprehended by the authorized law enforcement agencies.

The PUVMP is the government’s response to address the transport-related problems and the future transportation demand of the country.

The program aims to create a restructured, modern, well-managed and environmentally sustainable transport sector where drivers and operators have stable, sufficient and dignified livelihoods while commuters get to their destinations quickly, safely and comfortably.

The LTFRB was one of the agencies featured during the 2nd episode of the weekly ‘Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ organized by the Presidential Communication Office through the Philippine Information Agency to communicate government programs and services.

The Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas is live streamed over the Philippine Information Agency Central Visayas Facebook page and aired live over Radyo Pilipinas Cebu every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
