DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Davao Region has heightened its efforts to stop illegal van contracting, particularly during the observance of the Lenten season.
Some of these van operators often operate at night, taking advantage by asking for exorbitant fare prices, especially when buses stop operating.
LTFRB Davao Region transportation development officer, Engr. Ronnel Victor Panigon, said that the agency is working closely with local and national transport offices to conduct surprise inspections and apprehend non-compliant operators.
On Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw of the Philippine Information Agency Davao Region and SM City Davao, Panigon said that this effort aims to ensure the safety of the passengers and security of the transportation service, especially during this Holy Week season.
Operators found violating regulations will face penalties, including fines of P5,000 for first-time offenders, P10,000 for second offenses, and P15,000, and cancellation of franchise for third-time offenders. (WLD/PIA Davao intern)
