LTFRB reviews petition to raise jeepney minimum fare to P15

MANILA, (PIA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is currently studying a petition from several transport groups to increase the minimum fare for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) to P15.

In a statement, the agency assured the public that it is considering various factors, including fuel prices, inflation rates, and the overall impact on commuters.

While we remain committed to ensuring that their livelihood is sustainable, we must also carefully balance this with the welfare of commuters who are equally affected by the current economic conditions,” the LTFRB said.

The board indicated that public hearings and consultations will follow their review of the fare increase proposal to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.

Rest assured, the LTFRB remains committed to delivering solutions that are fair and equitable for both our transport operators and commuters,” the agency added.

Currently, the minimum fare for traditional PUJs stands at P13, while modern PUJs charge P15.

The potential fare increase reflects ongoing discussions about the economic pressures faced by both transport operators and passengers.

As the review progresses, the LTFRB aims to strike a balance that addresses the needs of the transport sector while considering the financial burden on commuters. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
