LTO-10 collects P601M, registers over 268,000 vehicles in early 2024

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office here made great strides in its efforts to improve  road safety, minimize traffic infractions, and improve public service delivery

Already, LTO has the registered 268,259 motor vehicles, issued of 134,790 licenses and permits, collect P601 million in revenue, and apprehended 15,692 traffic violators, according to the agency’s performance metrics for the first five months of 2024.

“In comparison, from January to May 2024, our motor vehicle registered is already 268,259. Meaning, nakalahati na po natin ‘yung accomplishment natin (we are halfway through our accomplishment) last year as of May 31, 2024,” said LTO-10 Regional Director Nelson Manaloto during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on June 4.

In 2023, the LTO registered 570,212 vehicles, issued 301,047 licenses and permits, collected P1.2 billion, and made 26,448 apprehensions.

“With regards to the MV (motor vehicle) plates, updated kami dito. Wala kaming backlog. When you say we don’t have a backlog, ito ‘yung mga initially registered, mga bagong rehistrong sasakyan, mga bagong bili. ‘Pag kasi nagparehistro kayo sa LTO ng bagong sasakyan, within 5 days or less than 5 days, ay ilalabas ang OR/CR kasama na ang plaka,” he said.

(With regards to the MV plates, we are updated here. We have no backlog. When you say we don’t have a backlog, these are the ones initially registered: newly registered vehicles and new purchases. When you register a new vehicle with the LTO, within 5 days or less than 5 days, the OR/CR will be issued, including the license plate.)

The LTO has also made strides in distributing replacement plates, particularly those from 2016–2017, which experienced delays in production. The LTO has issued plates for vehicles registered in 2018–2019 and is currently in the process of producing plates for 2020–2021.

In an effort to improve road safety, the LTO-10 conducted several vehicle inspections, including school buses and shuttle buses, particularly during critical times like the start of the school year and major holidays. During Semana Santa 2024, the LTO inspected 3,474 vehicles, a measure aimed at ensuring safe travel for the public.

Manaloto also highlighted the LTO’s dedication to resolving issues related to driver’s license issuance, saying they have found a way to increase the number of licenses in each office. For those who don’t have a license card, he said that they may go to the respective offices to claim and print their license card.

Rechelle Ann Barraquias, who just renewed her license, experienced LTO’s services and said, “It’s good that the office is now leveraging technology, particularly the internet, in the renewal and application process. I took my exams online without leaving home. However, this particular part is prone to the danger of cheating and dishonesty in taking the exam, as there is no way to monitor whether one took the exam on his or her own.”

She added that there is a need for strengthened information and communication campaigns for the public, and that the system would also be a challenge for those who have limited access to the internet or limited digital literacy skills.

For his experience, Romeo Pleños said, “So far, paspas man ang process nila, especially if for renewal since makita man siguro nila sa ilaha system diretso ang records sa tanan violations if naa man. Though medyo madugay gamay if mag-confirm ka through your email for the release since mangita pa ka og WiFi and medyo langan ata for those drivers na walay smart phone like mga tigulang na.”

(So far, their process is also fast, especially for renewal since people can see the records of all violations directly in their system if there are any. Additionally, the process will take slightly longer if you confirm the release through your email, as you will still need to connect to WiFi. It will be a bit slow for those drivers who don’t have a smartphone, like the elderly.)

Manaloto said LTO-10 continues to work towards its goal of improving transportation services and ensuring road safety. With 14 district offices and one e-patrol mobile office, the agency remains committed to serving the public efficiently and effectively. As of late 2024, efforts to distribute replacement plates and extend the validity of licenses due to card shortages are ongoing. (RTP/PIA-10)
