CAMIGUIN (PIA) —The Land Transportation Office (LTO) here is calling on motorists to conduct regular vehicle checks and practice defensive driving following a rise in road accidents in the province.
In a radio interview, LTO Camiguin field office officer-in-charge Marlon Labadan reminded drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before traveling.
“Daghan naggamit sa atong dalan, when mag-drive ta, dapat atong vehicle is roadworthy,” said Labadan.
(Many people are using the roads, so when we drive, our vehicles must be roadworthy.)
Labadan reiterated the use of the BLOWBAGETS checklist—Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brake, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, and Self—as a basic guide to vehicle inspection.
He also underscored the need for defensive driving, which involves staying alert, anticipating hazards, and understanding road navigation.
Labadan emphasized the proper use of road lanes: outer lanes for slow-moving vehicles such as motorcycles and sidecars, and inner lanes for faster vehicles including trucks, cars, and emergency responders.
He further noted that broken white lines allow cautious overtaking, while solid yellow lines prohibit it.
“Remember nga accidents, seconds ra dili minutes (Remember that accidents happen in seconds, not minutes),” he said.
With more pedestrians using roads for walking and jogging, he advised them to walk facing oncoming traffic.
Labadan said consistent implementation of road safety regulations and enforcement of local ordinances are essential to maintaining orderly traffic and ensuring public safety in the province. (HSGA/PIA-10/Camiguin)
