ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office – Roxas City District Office scheduled a series of plate number distribution for motorcycle units as part of the Road Safety Week (RSW).
“We will also give a lecture about road safety during the distribution to increase the drivers’ awareness on road accidents,” LTO Roxas City Public Information Officer Warren Dureza said.
Dureza added that the plate distribution by the district office kicked off last April, with the members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association in Maayon town as the first to receive the plate numbers.
LTO Roxas City District Office chief Ma. Lourdes P. Casipe led the distribution activity following the coordination and prompt action by the local government unit of Maayon.
“We also conduct seminars on road safety and preventive maintenance to motorists to curb road accidents,” Dureza added.
Based on data, a total of 1,453 vehicular accidents, which include 40 deaths, were recorded by the Capiz Police Provincial Office based on its Public Safety Indicator report from January to December 2024.
The LTO District Office spokesperson noted that the majority of road accidents usually involve “younger generations” who mostly have no driver’s license.
The week-long event has the support of the PIA in Western Visayas as it affirms its commitment to the implementation of the Ligtas na Kalsada For All (LinK4All) Project, which aims to reduce road crash fatalities through data-driven planning, investment programming, monitoring, and evaluation towards a more secure and resilient transportation system in the region.
“We, the Philippine Information Agency in Western Visayas, hereby express our full support to the successful implementation of LinK4All, which the Regional Development Council 6 approved through Resolution No. 8, series of 2025,” said PIA Western Visayas regional head Cheryl B. Amor.
The RSW aims to promote awareness, education, and commitment to road safety for all road users, especially children.
It is part of the Road Safety Month celebration this May, stipulated in Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A in 1996, that calls for a shared commitment to safer roads and a culture of responsible driving across the country. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz/Photo from LTO Roxas City)
