BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are pushing for the creation of Traffic Discipline Zones (TDZs) in the province to respond to emergencies and accidents on the national highway.
Marietta Flores, LTO chief, emphasized that TDZs should be established in strategic locations and managed by an inter-agency task force.
These zones, she said, should feature a centralized Help Desk and be equipped with ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks, bulldozers, and trained first responders.
“There are sections of the Maharlika Highway and other roads where traffic congestion often occurs due to stalled vehicles, soil erosion, road accidents, and other incidents. The presence of TDZs will allow these issues to be addressed more quickly,” Flores said.
She believes that the implementation of TDZs will help reduce traffic bottlenecks for motorists traveling along the national highway.
Flores also recommended a task force consisting of representatives from the PNP, local government units (LGUs), the LTO, the Provincial Health Office, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Provincial Engineering Office, and other relevant agencies.
The proposal for TDZs was raised during the recent First Provincial Traffic Management Summit and has received strong support from the PNP. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
