KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) continues its intensified law enforcement operations as part of the government’s drive toward the safety of all road users.
The agency has made it clear that adhering to traffic laws and regulations is essential for maintaining order and preventing accidents.
LTO Regional Director Melharrieh Tomawis reported that in 2024, authorities apprehended a total of 40,374 motorists for various violations.
“Maging alerto tayo at suportahan ang ating road safety campaign. Hindi tayo mapapagod na paulit-ulit na ipaalala sa inyo na maging disiplinado tayo sa pagbiyahe sa lansangan. Panatilihin natin na ang ating mga papeles ay ligal, hindi paso at i-maintain ang pagsunod sa batas lansangan,” Tomawis said.
(Let’s be alert and support our road safety campaign. We will continue to remind you to maintain discipline when driving. Let’s ensure that our documents are legal, not expired, and maintain compliance with traffic laws.)
He credited this achievement to the stricter enforcement of road safety rules and regulations, as well as the heightened visibility of LTO enforcers and deputized officers.
The official also attributed most of the violations to non-compliance with seatbelt use, failure to wear helmets, and insufficient or faulty vehicle accessories.
Tomawis emphasized the importance of maintaining a valid driver’s license, regularly checking vehicles, and ensuring that all parts are functioning to avoid fines and penalties.
He then urged vehicle owners to contact the agency about any unreleased motorcycle and motor vehicle plates awaiting claim at their office and to bring the original OR/CR and a valid government-issued ID when claiming any of them. (ORVR – PIA Region 12)
