ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office in Tapaz town will put up a Driver’s Education Center as the agency sustains efforts to bring its services to remote areas.
This was disclosed by LTO 6 acting regional director lawyer Gaudioso P. Geduspan II in view of the government’s campaign on road safety by providing aspiring drivers with the fundamentals on road safety during a visit to Tapaz town in time for the municipality’s “Patabang Festival.”
The center, under the office of the LTO regional director, issues a Theoretical Driving Certificate as a requirement in applying for a student license.
Geduspan joined House of Representatives Secretary General Reginald Velasco and Department of Transportation Assistance Secretary Ricardo Alfonso and other guests in the celebration.
“Naniniwala po kami na ang road safety ang pundasyon po niya ay edukasyon,” the LTO 6 official noted, adding that the initiative is bringing the LTO services closer to the people.
(We believe that education is the foundation of road safety.)
He added that the LTO 6 Regional Law Enforcement Section has conducted an extensive Information and Education Campaign for local motorists and public transport operators in the municipality to raise public awareness in ensuring the safety of both drivers and pedestrians by preventing road accidents and compliance with land transportation laws as well as traffic rules.
The project is being pushed by Tapaz mayor Roberto Palomar to make the LTO services accessible to town residents, strengthen the enforcement of traffic regulations, and promote sustainable transportation initiatives for town residents.
“Meron tayong almost 5,000 na mga tricycle drivers, sikad drivers na walang lisensya. Iyan ang pagsisikapan natin na mabigyan ng lisensya kasi ang karamihan sa kanila ay hirap na makapasa exam para magkaroon ng non-prof drivers license,” Palomar said.
(The municipality has about 5,000 drivers without a license because majority of them find it hard to pass the exam in order to get a non-professional driving card.
In 2018, the LTO also conducted a Driver’s License Outreach Program in the municipality.
Meanwhile, the mayor added that the local government unit will also receive P165 million from House of Representatives Sec. Gen. Velasco and a motor vehicle from DOTr Asst. Sec. Alfonso.
The festival, marking the 150th founding anniversary and religious fiesta in honor of Tapaz’ Patron Saint Jerome, reflects the culture of helping one another, whether it’s working together during planting and harvest seasons, moving a house, or preparing food for thanksgiving.
The bayanihan spirit is a cornerstone of the Tapaznon way of life. (AAL/PIA Capiz)
