KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 12 has turned Valentine’s Day into an opportunity to promote safety for both road users and commuters in this city.
LTO Regional Director Melharrieh Tomawis, along with traffic enforcers, led the distribution of helmets and rice packs to motorists, including informational materials on road safety and traffic regulations.
They also showered female motorists with roses and chocolate treats.
“Alam po natin na araw ng mga puso ngayon. Kami po ngayon ay kumakatok sa inyong mga puso na ang ating batas trapiko ay kinakailangan sundin po natin. Dahil ang bawa’t isa sa atin ay may mga mahal sa buhay na naghihintay sa kanilang mga tahanan,” Tomawis said.
(We know that today is Valentine’s Day. We are now knocking on your hearts to remind you that we need to follow our traffic laws. Each of us has loved ones waiting for us at home.)
The initiative was part of LTO’s “Oplan Puso 2025,” to promote road safety by promoting adherence to traffic laws and reducing road crash incidents.
“Para po maiwasan ang mga sakuna sa kalsada, tayo po ay tumalima. Tayo po ay sumunod sa batas trapiko,” the official emphasized.
(To avoid accidents on the road, let us comply. Let’s follow the traffic laws.)
The campaign not only aimed to raise awareness but also to foster a culture of responsible driving among all road users, Tomawis further emphasized.
As part of the initiative, LTO personnel also conducted inspections at public terminals and public utility vehicles to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Tomawis disclosed that among the most common violations flagged during the operations were expired licenses and vehicle registrations, defective lights, and non-compliance with the standard motorcycle helmet requirement.
The campaign was also carried out in Surallah, Tupi, Polomolok, and General Santos City. (ORVR – PIA Region 12)
