DAVAO CITY—Department of Public Works and Highways-XI (DPWH-XI) spokesperson Dean Ortiz says they are eyeing the completion of the P1.4-billion Maa-Magtuod Flyover structure by 2026.
Guesting at Mindanao Development Authority’s Habi at Kape Media Forum, Ortiz says that works are currently at the 11th pier, which is the last pier of the flyover structure.
“In a few weeks’ time since we are working on the last coping puwede na nato isaka atong mga girders (we can lift the girders) all that remains to be installed are eight girders and after that the bridge structure will already be completed kay ongoing ang buhos sa concrete slabs (the pouring of cement is ongoing),” Ortiz said.
He said that even after the bridge structure is completed, they would have to put abutment and the bridge approaches.
“We still have to widen some portions of the lanes that have been compromised by the bridge,” Ortiz said.
He said the bridge (flyover structure) itself we’re targeting first quarter 2026, structure lang (only the structure),” Ortiz said.
The DPWH-XI spokesperson said if the bridge structure is completed it can already be used, similar to the Tagum Flyover when the bridge was already being used while construction below the structure was still ongoing.
Ortiz said there are portions where Road Right-of-Way are still being settled.
“But we have already purchased the portions adjacent to the structure,” Ortiz said.
Motorists have complained of the traffic congestion at Carlos P. Garcia Highway or the Diversion Road due to the ongoing construction of the flyover. (PIA/RGA)
