ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The Maayon town local government unit thru the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) conducts training on family disaster preparedness for 1,280 participants.
Held from August 15 to September 5, 2024, the training aims to provide adequate skills training to the residents for them to be aware in terms of an impending disaster.
Maayon town Vice Mayor Jose Dapulaza emphasized the significance of Republic Act No. 10121, mandating the Local DRRMO to adopt a comprehensive, all-hazards, multi-sectoral, inter-agency, and community-based approach to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).
“This approach aims to build safer, adaptive, and disaster-resilient communities, aligning with the goals of sustainable development,” Dapulaza said.
He further highlighted the importance of shifting from a reactive to a proactive stance in disaster preparedness, which increases community resilience while minimizing vulnerabilities.
Maayon town information officer Ronjel Delfin said the key topics during the three-week training include the current disaster situation of the municipality and the town’s early warning system.
Delfin also noted that 21 barangays in Maayon town joined the training and all the participants were able to immerse themselves in the fundamental disaster risk reduction and management concepts, family preparedness strategies, and the development of family evacuation plans.
“The LGU, through this initiative, reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that its communities are better equipped and informed to handle potential disasters, fostering a culture of preparedness and safety across the municipality,” Delfin added. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
