Magsaysay Park set to undergo improvements under Panunod Project

DAVAO CITY—Davao City’s Magsaysay Park will be undergoing improvements under the Panunod Project.

The improvement will see the rise of a cultural peace hub that will present the traditions of the indigenous and Bangsamoro communities in the city.

Last year Davao City won second place in the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Tourism Champions Challenge for their sustainable tourism proposal titled “Panunod Project: Preservation of the Unwavering Legacy of Cultural and Sustainable Tourism of the Davao City Kadayawan Village.”

The City received a P15-million cash prize plus a P5-million additional cash prize from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.  All winning LGUs (local government units) of the TCC received the equal amount of additional prize from the President.

The project will entail redeveloping the existing Kadayawan Village inside Magsaysay Park, which hosts the replica houses of the 11 indigenous and Moro communities in Davao City.

The City Tourism Operations Office, which is implementing the project for the local government of Davao City, is planning to finish the project within this year.

“Naga-pass pa ta sa atong lacking na requirements, ug human na pud atong architectural layout sa atong admin hall ug comfort room and bag-o lang pud tung niaging last February 20 bag-o lang pud nahuman ang  operation and management plan with our stakeholders in the Magsaysay Park,” says Paul Angelo Castanes. Tourism Relations Officer (CTOO).

(We are submitting the requirements that are lacking and we completed the architectural layout for our admin hall and comfort room and recently on February 20 we just completed the operation and management plan of our stakeholders in the Magsaysay Park.)

The stakeholders include several government agencies and offices which have offices inside the three-hectare park.

Gastanes says they are eyeing the groundbreaking for the improvement to start on or before May this year. (PIA/RGA)
