
QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Good news! The City Government of Makati recently bagged the prestigious ‘Galing Pook Awards’ for 2023.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay received the award for the city’s Virtual Queuing Management System (VQMS), which was one of the Top 10 awardees.
Makati’s Virtual Queuing Management System has eliminated long queues and congestion in departments, providing residents with a more efficient and hassle-free experience.
“The Virtual Queuing Management System is a testament to our dedication to continuously push for better solutions that will benefit everyone,” said Mayor Abby.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. likewise urged the winners to share their best practices with other local government units (LGUs) for the benefit of more communities.
The other winners in the award include: Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, Seal of Health Governance; Davao Oriental Province, Happy Home; General Santos City, Shari’a Atas Bitiara; Iloilo Province, Mobilizing Communities through People-Centered Zero Open Defecation Movement Towards Sustainable Sanitation; Pasig City, Prehospital Care and Emergency Medical Services Medical Control Program; Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, Fish From The Mountains: Bayawan Inland Aquaculture; Bataan Province, 1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay; Barangay Taloot, Argao, Cebu, Barangay Taloot Community-Based Integrated Approach; and Quezon City: iRISE UP (Intelligent, Resilient, and Integrated Systems for the Urban Population).
The Galing Pook Awards was launched on October 21, 1993, as a pioneering program that searches and recognizes innovative practices by local government units. LGU finalists with outstanding initiatives are carefully selected and winners are recognized in a very prestigious awarding ceremony.
Beyond the awards, winning programs become models of good governance promoted for adoption in other communities. They provide useful insights and strategies to find innovative solutions to common problems. More importantly, they affirm the community and the local government’s commitment to good governance.
