Makati City Library receives international recognition for reading, writing program

MANILA, (PIA) — The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) cited the Makati City Library for receiving international recognition for their “Let’s Read Together: Reading and Writing Program.”

We are proud to recognize their achievement as one of the three winners of the prestigious 18th Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) Innovation Awards for Public Libraries.”

The state library said that Makati City Library’s reading and writing program is a testament to its unwavering dedication to fostering innovation, enriching the community, and advancing library services in the digital age.

According to NLP, the EIFL Public Library Innovation Award recognizes the innovative library services and programs that use ICT to improve lives and livelihoods in developing and transition countries.

The Makati City Library joins SP Leituras (São Paulo Library and Reading Association) in Brazil for their BibliOn Digital Reading Clubs that create communities of readers across the country and the Panevėžys Country Public Library in Lithuania for ‘FriendshipLand,’ a program combining virtual game, education, and books to attract teenagers to reading.

According to EIFL, the winning libraries will each receive a prize of US$1,500, a certificate, and a trophy.

The EIFL enables access to knowledge through libraries in developing and transition countries to support sustainable development.

EIFL’s Library consortia in 38 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, representing more than 3,000 libraries, are part of the EIFL network. In addition, we work in another 15 countries with project partners. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
