QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Over 14,000 individuals found employment through Makati City’s job placement program in 2024, exceeding the city’s target by a wide margin, Mayor Abby Binay announced Monday.
A total of 14,710 job seekers were hired through the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Job Referral and Placement Program between January and December, representing a 92% hiring rate among the 15,967 individuals referred to private companies.
This significantly surpassed the city’s annual target of at least 60%, Binay said.
“The program’s success underscores Makati City’s commitment to address unemployment and support residents and non-residents in finding gainful employment,” she said, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with the business community.
“Through innovative programs and partnerships, we aim to provide more job opportunities. The success of our job placement program highlights the positive and lasting impact of partnerships between the city government and the private sector,” she added.
The PESO organized two major job fairs in 2024: a Mega Job Fair and an In-House Job Fair. These events connected job seekers with potential employers, resulting in 915 registrations, 550 qualified applicants, and 226 on-the-spot hires.
“The PESO Job Referral and Placement Program remains vital to Makati’s comprehensive strategy to boost employment and economic resilience,” the city government said in a statement.
“By connecting job seekers with employers and hosting large-scale job fairs, the city continues to empower its workforce and contribute to local economic growth and national development.”
The city government encouraged residents and non-residents to visit the My Makati Facebook page for updates on upcoming job fairs and employment services. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
