MANILA, (PIA) — Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the celebration of Malabon’s 24th anniversary as a city, reflecting on the significance of the date and its impact on local progress.
“Maligayang ika-24 na Anibersaryo, Malabon! Napakahalaga ng araw na ito sa ating kasaysayan,” she said. The city officially became a city on April 21, 2001, through Republic Act 9019, which was authored by then-Congressman Ricky Sandoval.
Mayor Jeannie emphasized the importance of unity and community spirit, stating, “Nawa’y ipagpatuloy natin ang pagkakaisa at bayanihan, dahil ito ang susi sa isang maayos, masagana, at maunlad na komunidad.”
Congressman Sandoval, who also spoke at the event, noted that the act was a result of the determination and collaboration of Malabueños, leading to improved Internal Revenue Allotments (IRA) and increased funding for infrastructure and opportunities for residents.
Since its cityhood, Malabon has experienced significant growth, with its annual IRA rising from P150 million to over P1 billion. These funds have supported critical sectors, including P35 million annually for education, health services, livelihood assistance, and scholarships for students.
Major infrastructure projects such as flood control systems, schools, and health centers have also been implemented.
Mayor Jeannie highlighted various programs initiated since cityhood, including the Malabon Ahon Blue Card, which has aided 90,000 residents with financial assistance since 2022.
In terms of housing, 700 families have received Certificates of Entitlement to Lot Allocation, with ongoing projects in Brgy. Tinajeros and Brgy. Potrero.
Mayor Jeannie also noted that 6,500 students from the City of Malabon University have benefited from tuition-free education since 2022.
“Bilang inyong Punong-Lungsod, karangalan ko pong itaguyod ang isang mas makabago, makatarungan, at masaganang Malabon,” she said, urging residents to showcase their talents and work together towards shared success. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
