Malabon City raises red alert status for Super Typhoon Pepito

MANILA, (PIA) — The local government placed Malabon City under red alert status Sunday as Typhoon Pepito threatens Metro Manila with heavy rains and possible flooding.

The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) fully activated its emergency response plans and deployed 167 personnel to prepare for the typhoon’s impact. Metro Manila is currently under Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 2.

We are prepared for the heavy rainfall and potential flooding brought by Typhoon Pepito,” Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said in Filipino. “We are united in ensuring everyone’s safety.”

The city opened 13 evacuation centers, including the Catmon Evacuation Center and C4 Isolation Facility. As of Sunday morning, 84 individuals from 18 families have been evacuated to Panghulo Elementary School.

MDRRMO positioned 13 boats and five tents across various barangays for immediate deployment. The city’s social welfare department prepared 200 food packs containing canned goods, water, coffee, rice, and noodles for evacuees.

The city government has activated its 24/7 command center to monitor the situation and maintain early warning systems. Engineering teams have readied pumping stations and flood gates, while environmental teams conducted cleanup drives and declogging operations.

City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete urged residents to immediately coordinate with local authorities for assistance during the heavy rains.

The command center can be reached through their hotlines: 8-921-6009, 8-921-6029, or through mobile numbers 09423729891 and 09190625588. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
