MANILA, (PIA) — The Malabon City local government unit (LGU) provided financial assistance and shelter repair kits to 11 families affected by a residential fire in Barangay Longos. The incident, which happened recently, left 47 individuals displaced.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval personally handed out the aid at the Barangay Longos Multi-purpose Hall.
“We feel the weight of the loss experienced by the families who recently lost their homes. We immediately extended financial assistance to them. I hope they can use this for their needs, especially in rebuilding their homes or relocating. The city government is here to support you,” Mayor Jeannie said.

The City Social Welfare and Development Department reported that families whose homes were completely destroyed received P10,000 each, while those with partial damage received P5,000. Additionally, the local government supplied shelter repair kits containing essential materials such as plywood, hammers, nails, doors with locks, and other tools.
In the days following the fire, the city government also distributed hot meals and family food packs that included rice, coffee, and canned goods, along with hygiene and sleeping kits.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire on Hiwas Street was raised to first alarm status at approximately 9:40 a.m. of August 21 and was extinguished by 10:13 a.m. on the same day. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
“Despite the challenges and incidents our city has faced this past month, we have demonstrated the resilience and solidarity of Malabueños. We came together to ensure the safety of our loved ones. Unity is crucial; it helps us rise above any problem we encounter,” Mayor Jeannie added. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
