Malabon LGU inaugurates library to encourage reading among youth

MANILA, (PIA) — To encourage Malabueño children to gain knowledge through reading, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and Links Philippines led the inauguration of the newly refurbished library at Dela Paz Elementary School on Monday, Aug. 19.

I believe that in every page of a book lies a door to a new world of knowledge and imagination. With the help of our new library, our students’ learning will become more vibrant and engaging,” Mayor Jeannie said.

The inauguration was part of the 18th Hooked on Books Library and Reading Program. The City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (CTCAO) and Links Philippines led the two-day renovation of the library from Aug. 17-18.

Artists from Malabon and Baguio, as well as local government personnel, worked together in creating mural paintings and placing furniture that improved the appearance of the library, making it more attractive to the children. Links Philippines also donated children’s books for the library.

We know that reading is the foundation of a strong education, and this will be the key for our youth to reach their dreams,” the mayor shared, encouraging the students to utilize the library and read more books to gain knowledge as they grow and learn to become responsible and productive leaders and citizens of the country.

Links Philippines President Maria Consuelo Doble emphasized the importance of having a library, especially in public schools, as it serves as the center of the school.

The children long to have a library that is colorful, beautiful, and has many books, so they will be encouraged to come and read,” she said.

Doble added that they also trained teachers who will take care of the library and help the students in learning.

Also present at the event were Topbest Printing Corporation Executive Director Mr. John Gabriel Co, Malabon Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Cecille Carandang, CTCAO Officer-in-Charge Ms. Catherine Larracas, school representatives, and other guests. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
