QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Malabon City government confirmed on April 9 that its lawyers are considering taking legal action against individuals spreading disinformation in the city. This announcement comes amid rising concerns about the detrimental effects of disinformation on public trust and governance.
In a statement, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval expressed a commitment to combat the malicious spread of false information. “While we are ready to respond to those malicious accusations, our focus remains on serving our fellow citizens,” she said. “We will continue to deliver public service for them, while also reminding everyone to stay vigilant, discerning, and responsible when using social media.”
The city government has emphasized the harmful impact of disinformation, particularly regarding public services. As social media platforms increasingly serve as primary information sources, the spread of fake news poses significant challenges for local leaders.
Sandoval underscored the necessity of public awareness and responsibility in managing information in today’s digital landscape. She reassured residents that her legal team is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to act once those responsible for spreading false information are identified.
“Patuloy tayong magseserbisyo para sa kanila kasabay ng ating pagpapaalala na patuloy na maging mapagmatyag, mapanuri, at matalinong gumagamit ng social media,” she added, reiterating the importance of vigilance among citizens.
Residents and social media users, meanwhile, are urged to exercise caution regarding the information they consume and share, aiming to foster a more informed and responsible digital community. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
