MANILA, (PIA) — As Metro Manila braces for two more upcoming tropical cyclones namely, Ofel, and possibly Pepito, the Malabon City government has received 21 new rescue boats from the Mang Ondoy Rescue Hub to enhance its disaster response capabilities.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval emphasized the importance of these new resources in ensuring the safety of residents in the event of flooding.

“As we prepare for the heavy rains… we are grateful for the new rescue boats that will help ensure the safety of every Malabueño. This demonstrates our commitment to protecting our citizens during disasters through strengthened programs and collaboration with various government agencies,” she stated.
The transfer of the boats occurred on Monday, facilitated by Mayor Sandoval and Councilor Edward Nolasco in partnership with the rescue hub.
The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) received one large rubber boat and 20 smaller boats, along with 50 paddles, to assist in emergency operations.
“These boats will enhance our equipment, allowing us to respond more quickly to those in need, especially with the anticipated heavy rains,” said City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete.
“We will position them for immediate deployment in case families are stranded during floods,” Rosete added.
The City Command and Communication Center will operate 24/7 to monitor flood-prone areas and rivers during the storm. All Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils across the 21 barangays are on standby, with rescue trucks and response teams deployed to various locations.
Additionally, the Engineering Office has been tasked with inspecting all pumping stations and flood gates to ensure they are operational as part of the city’s flood mitigation efforts. The MDRRMO has confirmed that all equipment, vehicles, early warning systems, and flood sensors are ready for use.
The City Social Welfare and Development Department is also prepared to provide relief goods to families seeking temporary shelter at evacuation centers, ensuring that the community is well-supported during extreme weather events. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
