Malabon LGU to build 2-storey apartment tombs at Tugatog Cemetery

MANILA, (PIA) — To provide a dignified burial place for deceased residents, the Malabon City local government unit (LGU) is set to construct a two-storey apartment-type building with “apartment tombs” at Tugatog Cemetery.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval emphasized the importance of offering a proper resting place for loved ones.

We know how essential it is for our departed ones to be in a decent location. This building will create a safe and respectful space for them, allowing their families to visit with peace of mind,” Mayor Jeannie said.

According to the City Engineering Department, the new facility will cover a total floor area of 908 square meters, featuring 360 niches on the ground floor and 288 on the second floor.

The building will also include an elevator and restrooms for men, women, and persons with disabilities.

The local government has allocated P35 million from its budget for the first phase of construction.

Officials aim to complete 35 percent of this phase by November, with plans to finish the entire project next year.

Once the first phase is completed, there are plans to add three more floors, bringing the total to five.

For his part, City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete highlighted the project as part of the government’s commitment to honor the contributions of those who have passed away.

This initiative is about providing a proper place for everyone in Malabon, including our dearly departed. We will ensure that during the upcoming Undas, every Malabueño can pay their respects and pray for their loved ones,” he said.

The new building is expected to offer Malabueños a respectful and accessible option for honoring their deceased family members.

It can be recalled that Tugatog Cemetery in Malabon City has been regarded as one of the heritage cemeteries in the country due to some interesting old tomb architecture inside the public burial site.  (JCO/PIA-NCR)
