MANILA, (PIA) — The Malabon local government is offering up to P1 million for the cleanest barangay in the norther metro city.
The initiative was announced on Tuesday by Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, as the city will launch its “Search for the Cleanest Barangay 2025” to promote cleanliness and foster the spirit of “Bayanihan” within its communities.
“This competition among our 21 barangays aligns with our goal of making Malabon cleaner, greener, and more welcoming for everyone,” Sandoval said.
“Now is the time for us to come together for a clean environment. Beyond the prizes for the winners, we can showcase our skills, unity, and care for our nature, which are essential for a brighter future,” she added.
The program, coordinated by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), aims to enhance cooperation between the city government, barangays, and the community to maintain a clean and green neighborhood.
The competition will officially kick off in March, with inspections and assessments scheduled from April to November.
Results will be announced in December. Evaluation will be conducted by judges from various organizations, including the Malabon City Solid Waste Management Board, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Barangays will be assessed based on criteria such as cleanliness (40%), sustainability measures (25%), community participation (15%), innovation (10%), and documentation (10%).
Winning barangays will earn cash prizes ranging from P1 million for first place to P50,000 for fifth place, along with plaques and certificates.
“A clean and orderly environment is our priority in Malabon. This effort is not only for nature but also for the health and well-being of every Malabuenos. As we continue cleaning our waterways and roads, we encourage community cooperation to achieve our goals,” said City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
