Mambajao invests in mini-buses to boost tourist transportation

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA) — Mambajao is improving its tourism infrastructure by purchasing two mini-buses to transport visitors to Ardent Spring Resort, a popular town destination.

“We are very confident that we can recover this investment based on our revenue collection trend, that in 2023, we got P6.1 million, and from January to May 2024, it has already given us P2.6 million,” Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo said in his State of the Municipality Address on July 5.

Looking ahead, Mambajao plans to rebrand the resort as the “Ardent Wellness Resort,” aiming to expand its offerings and attract more visitors. A preview of the envisioned resort showcased ambitious plans for the future, promising enhanced amenities and services.

In another exciting development, Romauldo said the local government has launched a tourist virtual map, an integrated feature on the local government’s website. This pioneering technological advancement in Camiguin allows users to easily access information about tourist spots, accommodations, restaurants, cafes, and other points of interest. The feature is accessible via www.mambajao.gov.ph or through QR codes placed at various touchpoints around town.

Sports tourism is also gaining momentum in Mambajao. The town hosted significant events like the Camiguin 360 Ultramarathon, the Mount Hibok-Hibok Island Trail Race, and the Swim Junkie Challenge in 2023 and 2024.

“These activities attracted various sports enthusiasts from different parts of the country, generated revenues for the LGU, and helped our tourism service providers,” Romualdo said.

Additionally, Mambajao’s commitment to local sports development is evident through initiatives such as the clean and beautiful Mambajao Summer League and a triathlon clinic. These programs aim to foster community engagement and promote a healthy lifestyle among residents.

“This year’s Charter Day theme “Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Mapasigarbuhong Lungsod sa Mambajao, speaks highly and timely of what we commemorate today—169 glorious years of celebrating the good life in Mambaho. This collectively brings together what we have done, what we do, and continuously deliver; what we aspire as a united people and what we take pride as one progressive town,” Romualdo said.
