MANDALUYONG CITY, (PIA) — Due to the effects of the recent Typhoon ‘Carina’ and continuous rains that caused massive flooding in Metro Manila, the City Government of Mandaluyong issued an ordinance declaring the City of Mandaluyong under a state of calamity.
City Ordinance No. 991, s. 2024 stated that Typhoon ‘Carina’ has caused severe damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and private properties in the National Capital Region resulting in widespread destruction, disruption of livelihood and displacement of residents.
“The city government has recognized the right of every Mandaleño to health, and shall protect their lives and limbs from every form of danger.”
Further, the ordinance stated the city’s immediate response and recovery efforts, to expedite repairs and rehabilitation of affected areas, and access to additional funds from the National Government.
Meanwhile, the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department continuously prepares for the effects of La Niña and cleaning of drainage systems in cooperation with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). (JEG/PIA-NCR)
