MANILA, (PIA) — Recognizing the sacrifice and hard work of the village peacekeepers, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. finds it proper to include “barangay tanods” in the government cash assistance program.
To start with, the President provided funds for some 5,000 tanods in Manila City’s 897 barangays – distribution of which took place at the San Andres Sport Complex, simultaneous with the Kadiwa ng Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. program (Kadiwa ng Pangulo, for brevity) over the weekend. Each tanod received P2,000 in cash assistance.
Kadiwa ng Pangulo is a government initiative primarily designed to address poverty-alleviation-related concerns.
Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the distribution of cash aid, along with Vice Mayor John Marvin Nieto, 5th District Congressman Irwin Tieng, Manila Department of Social Welfare Chief Re Fugoso, and city councilors in distributing the cash aid to the barangay tanods.
In a message, Lacuna-Pangan cited the President’s deep concern to Manila’s peacekeepers whom she said need the aid most. She also expressed gratitude for including Manila in the administration’s assistance programs.
Manila City’s top local chief executive shared that she immediately thought of the barangay tanods when she heard about the government’s plan to provide funds to the city.
“I said, let’s give assistance to the barangay tanods because they seem to be the ones who don’t receive much attention, that’s why we really made a way with the help of the barangay bureau and MDSW, let’s make the tanods of Manila happy,” the mayor said.
Nieto and Tieng also took turns praising the President for recognizing the role of the city’s barangay tanods. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
