MARAWI CITY (PIA) — Forty internally displaced persons (IDPs) from here recently completed electrical training, gaining the skills to repair their homes independently.
The training on Electrical Installation and Maintenance National Certificate Level II (NC II), conducted by the Office of the Chief Minister’s Marawi Rehabilitation Program (OCM-MRP) in partnership with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education-Technical Education and Skills Development (MBHTE-TESD), equipped the IDPs with the skills to handle electrical repairs in their homes.
Two separate culmination programs recognized the 40 IDPs who completed the 25-day training. The first ceremony occurred at FTMS Training Center in the municipality of Marantao on August 12, while the second was at Sunlight Training Skills and Assessment Center Inc. in Barangay Daguduban, this city, on August 13.
“The training has been a game-changer for us, especially as residents of ground zero. We now have the skills to handle our electricity repairs independently, saving us the cost of hiring labor for electrical work,” said Mahid U. Panotulan, one of the completers.
Norlailah Nolan Datumolok, MRP’s Information Officer, said the first batch of 250 trainees graduated on March 19, 2024, and 231 more are currently in training as part of the second batch.
“In shaa Allah, we will also conduct a mass graduation ceremony for the second batch once all of them officially finish their respective courses,” she said.
The training is part of the Construction Materials Assistance (CMA) project of MRP aimed at equipping IDPs from the Most Affected Areas (MAAs) of the 2017 Marawi siege with skills to rebuild their homes and manage electrical repairs independently.
The OCM-MRP has been actively training IDPs from the Most Affected Areas (MAAs) of Marawi as part of its Construction Materials Assistance (CMA) project. The goal is to empower the IDPs to rebuild their homes and manage basic repairs on their own.
The OCM-MRP implements this component of CMA in collaboration with the MBHTE-TESD and its partner training institutes. It plans to continue its efforts to train more IDPs in various skills, including carpentry, masonry, and electrical maintenance. (BIO/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
