ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) — Zamboanga City commenced its Women’s Month 2025 celebration recently with the “Marcha de las Mujeres” parade, an annual event of the city where participants from various government agencies, organizations, and associations, dressed in purple and marched to the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

The event, organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Services Unit and the Local Council of Women, aimed to recognize women’s contributions and promote women’s rights.

The “Fuerza de Mujeres 2025” Awards were presented to 15 women for their advocacy and support of women’s empowerment, celebrating their dedication and unwavering support.

The event also highlighted the “Pinay Power 2025” National program by JCI Philippines. This program aims to develop female leaders in business, education, governance, and community development, nurturing future generations of female leaders by fostering leadership, advocacy, and empowerment for Filipina women.

Lilia Macrohon Nuño, president of the Local Council of Women – Zamboanga City Chapter, expressed her satisfaction with the high participation rate. “The importance of activities like this is to remind all women that we are already empowered. Seeing the women of Zamboanga participate in all the activities makes me very happy,” she said.

The “Marcha de las Mujeres” is the first of several events planned for the National Women’s Month celebration in Zamboanga City. Other activities include the Juana Talks Media Caravan, Women Techmakers 2025, and the Women Summit 2025, which are designed to further promote women’s empowerment throughout the month.

The city aims to use these events as a platform to continue the discussion on women’s rights, and to further the progress of women’s empowerment within Zamboanga City. (JFT/PIA9-ZAMSULTA)
