QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Armed Forces of the Philippines into a “world-class force” that embodies national pride and security.
“We will modernize your equipment, enhance your training programs, and ensure that you are equipped to face challenges not just of today but also of the future,” Marcos said on Friday when he led the Major Services Officer Candidate Course Joint Graduation Ceremony at the Tejeros Hall of Camp Aguinaldo, emphasizing the critical role of newly commissioned officers in the country’s defense.
In his address, the President also noted that this transformation begins with investing in the talents of miliary personnel.
Marcos declared that the future of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) lies in the “capable and honorable” hands of the graduates.
“Your graduation day today signifies the culmination of your determination, sacrifice, and hard work to overcome the challenges of becoming an officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of innovation, technical expertise, and leadership in meeting evolving threats and modern warfare challenges.
“These will be your most powerful weapons,” he said.
This year’s graduating class comprises 609 officers, including 361 from the Philippine Army’s Katarakian Class 61-2024, 173 from the Philippine Air Force’s Sigmandigan Class 2024, and 75 from the Philippine Navy’s Mangisalakan Class 42-2024.
During the ceremony, Marcos presented awards to the top four students from the officer candidate schools and conferred diplomas to class presidents.
In conjunction with the graduation ceremony, AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Heroes Memorial at Camp Aguinaldo. Brawner, along with other high-ranking officials, laid wreaths at the memorial, honoring the courage and valor of those who sacrificed their lives for the country. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
