Marinduque on ‘red alert’ due to ‘Pepito’

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened at the Marinduque provincial capitol on November 16 to discuss the steps to be taken in the evacuation operations for the six municipalities that could be affected by Typhoon Pepito.

PDRRM Office chief Juan Fernandez, Jr. announced that the province has been placed on “red alert status,” which means that all concerned government agencies must be on standby at their respective stations to monitor the affected areas and evacuate residents from areas that could be in danger due to the storm.

Heavy equipment and ambulances are already on standby to respond to any incidents that may arise in the province as Pepito nears the land.

Fernandez also mentioned that preparations and monitoring efforts continue in collaboration with the Municipal DRRMOs in the six towns.

A tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 is currently in effect in Marinduque. As of the latest reports, the municipality of Buenavista has evacuated three families, totaling 13 individuals, from a barangay.

Meanwhile, Torrijos has evacuated four families, with 14 individuals in total, from one barangay. (DN/PIA MIMAROPA-Marinduque)
