QUEZON CITY (PIA) — Soldiers from the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) Marine Battalion Landing Team-10 (MBLT-10) continue to respond to the critical needs of areas hit by typhoons through relief, rescue, and evacuation operations.

The MBLT-10 this week assisted in the unloading and distribution of 8,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) in Batanes from the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) vessel, BRP Gabriela Silang, to aid residents severely impacted by recent typhoons.

The FFPs were transported on Nov. 9 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City on board the PCG vessel en route to Batanes.

“In a coordinated effort with the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Local Government Units, Marine Reservists, Philippine Air Force Reservists, Philippine Navy Reservists, Army Reservists, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, MBLT-10 helped expedite the delivery of relief goods across the island,” the PMC unit highlighted.

It noted that the operation was led by DSWD Officer Haidee Sto Tomas, with coordination from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“This relief distribution highlights MBLT-10’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, reinforcing its dedication to community resilience and support in the face of natural calamities,” it emphasized.

The MBLT-10 prepared early its Disaster Response and Rescue Teams (DRRTs) and equipment in anticipation of the effects of Typhoon Nika (Toraji).

“The Marines coordinated closely with various Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in preparation for the typhoon’s impact. All Disaster Response Teams are on high alert and stand ready to execute emergency response operations,” it added.

The MBLT-10 also conducted road clearing operations in the aftermath of the typhoons.

The soldiers removed fallen trees, debris, and other obstructions on several roads in the provinces that were left by the weather disturbances.

The Marines likewise coordinated with the local government units and other law enforcement agencies in evacuating residents from coastal, severely affected, and high-risk areas. (PIA DMD)
