Masbate deploys workers, equipment to Camarines Sur to help in rescue, relief efforts

MASBATE CITY, Masbate (PIA) — In response to appeals for more help from storm-ravaged communities in the Bicol mainland, the provincial government of Masbate has deployed a team from the Masbate Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to Naga City.

The PDRRMO contingent will assist in rescue and relief operations in the storm-ravaged capital city of Camarines Sur in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

The group ferried to Pilar Port in Sorsogon yesterday afternoon and reached the city before midnight.

It brought three mobile machines that can eliminate harmful bacteria and impurities in water and convert seawater into potable water.

In addition, the team brought a water lorry, two rescue boats, two rescue vans and three rescue trucks.

MPDRRMO Head Adonis Dilao said the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol coordinated directly with him and Masbate Governor Antonio Kho on the humanitarian mission to assist the storm-hit city.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 1,860,625 people in Bicol were affected by Kristine, the 11th cyclone to hit the country this year, which caused widespread flooding in the region.
