MANILA, (PIA) — Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval personally distributed food packs and hot meals on Wednesday evening as initial aid to families who took shelter at the city’s evacuation centers amid heavy flooding caused by Typhoon Carina and high tide.
Mayor Jeannie visited Longos Elementary School and Ninoy Aquino Elementary School to assess the situation and the needs of the displaced families.
“Because of the continuous rain coupled with high tide, our city has been affected by the floods. We know the hardship that each of us is experiencing right now. Many have been rescued and evacuated to our shelters. Don’t worry because our city government continues to provide assistance and relief operations to ensure the safety of every Malabueño,” Mayor Sandoval said.

On Thursday evening, the City Social Welfare and Development office prepared around 283 family food packs and 1,316 hot meals to be distributed to families taking shelter at Ninoy Aquino Elementary School, Longos Elementary School, Tonsuya Elementary School, and Potrero Covered Court.
On Thursday, Malabon’s Emergency and Quick Response Team immediately conducted rescue operations using boats, vehicles, and other equipment after heavy flooding affected different barangays in the city.
According to the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, as of 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 114 families or 387 individuals were rescued. As of 6:30 a.m. on July 25, there are 1,063 families staying at the city’s 24 evacuation centers.
Some areas in the city, including Catmon People’s Park, Gov. Pascual, Sangianco St., and F. Sevilla cor Estrella, experienced 6-9 inches of flood, while 13 inches of flood affected P.Aquino cor Dagat-dagan Avenue and the Catmon Super Center, both of which were not passable to light vehicles.
Mayor Sandoval vowed to continue providing aid to the affected families and said the city will continue to monitor the situation in different areas.
“The only thing I ask is for your cooperation.
