MANILA, (PIA) — Mayor Jeannie Sandoval urged families in Malabon to prioritize safety and health as they celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
“Merry Christmas, Malabueños! As we celebrate this season, let us remember that safety and health come first. The city government is ready to assist in any emergency, but it’s better to be cautious and avoid dangers. We should also monitor our food to ensure our health. May our celebrations be filled with blessings, love, and unity,” Mayor Sandoval said.
In collaboration with the City Health Department, led by Dr. Bernadette Bordador, the local government is promoting healthier food choices for holiday meals.
Residents are encouraged to include more vegetables, fruits, milk, and steamed or roasted chicken and fish in their festive spreads.
Travel safety is also a priority; the Mayor advised against consuming alcoholic beverages and taking medications that may cause dizziness while traveling.
The mayor emphasized the importance of getting enough rest, ensuring vehicles are in good condition, and staying alert—urging drivers to avoid mobile device distractions.
To prevent theft and fire hazards, Sandoval reminded residents to secure their homes by locking all doors and windows and unplugging appliances before leaving.
Additionally, the Ospital ng Malabon has issued a warning against the use of firecrackers.
Instead, residents are encouraged to celebrate with musical instruments or community fireworks displays.
Those injured by firecrackers are urged to seek immediate medical attention.
Malabon City Police Station Chief Col. Jay Baybayan reported that around 40,000 attendees are expected for the Simbang Gabi, which runs from December 16 to 24 across the city’s 11 churches.
To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, approximately 160 personnel from the Malabon City Police and the City Public Safety and Traffic Management Office have been deployed to key areas.
In case of emergencies, residents can reach the Malabon Command and Control Center at 8-921-6009 or 0942-372-9891.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete reiterated the importance of vigilance during the holiday season and encouraged residents to approach government personnel for assistance.
“Let us always remind Malabueños to stay safe this Christmas. Our government staff and the Malabon PNP are deployed to help those in need. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need assistance,” Rosete said. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
